Onur Kavci

Onur Kavcı will be working on the visualisation of electron-phonon coupling in organic semiconducting materials in Serbia with Nenad Vukmirović. He is looking forward to learning more about HPC centres and working with Quantum Espresso.

Vito Šimonka

Vito is currently a master student of physics at the faculty of natural sciences and mathematics of the university of Maribor. He was born in a small town near the Hungarian and the Croatian border. Since his father is Hungarian, he speaks a little bit Hungarian himself. Maribor is the second-largest city of Slovenia with between 50,000 and 100,000 inhabitants. There, he’s living in one of the dormitories of the university.

Ezhilmathi ”Mathi” Krishanamy is an enthusiastic computational science student. He will spend his summer researching wind loading on solar trackers in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Marko Misic

Marko Misic, 29 years old, is from Serbia and he is travelling to Scotland in order to work at the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) on the project called “Multi-platform parallel code coverage and regression testing with CP2K” with his project mentor Iain Bethune. He describes himself as a passionate, hard working and creative person.

Simone De Camillis

Simone is from Teramo, a town at the east coast of Italy. He is finishing his masters degree in plasma physics in Pisa. For his final thesis he studies Plasma dynamic fluid applied to the solar wind magnetosphere interaction. After completing his studies, he will move to Belfast, Northern Ireland to study Laser plasma interaction for Phd.

Antoine Dewilde

Antoine Dewilde is from Belgium, he studies at the Université libre de Bruxelles. He spent the last year as a Master student in computer science. His master thesis is about machine learning. “In particular” he explains, “finding a way to automatically learn people’s behavior when they play a game.

Stamatia Tourna

Stamatia is very excited to take part in the Summer of HPC, regarding her selection for the programme as being among her proudest accomplishments. Her project, entitled “Timeline profiling and visualisation in Python”, will be based in Edinburgh. From the project, she hopes to gain experience and have the opportunity to work hard and improve her skills. She is especially excited to work in Edinburgh as she has many friends in the city.

Matteo Giacomini

Matteo Giacomini is a MSc student at the Politecnico di Milano. He is travelling to Istanbul for the project Simulation and visualization of bioflow in coronary arteries” (UHEM), that is related to his Bachelor’s final project. That was the reason why he chose this specific project and why he is so excited about it. He will be mentored by M. Serdar Celebi.

Hannes Grimm-Strele

Hannes is 28 years old and therefore not only one of the oldest but one of the most experienced participants in the program, too. He is originally from Germany where his parents live in Karlsruhe. Although he likes Vienna, he is thinking about going to a different place after completing his studies.

Vojtech Bardiovsky

Vojtech is a friendly Slovak student from Košice at 400 km from Bratislava. It is a wonderful region with several natural reserves and a nice city far from the Capital. Currently he lives in Prague (Czech Republic), where he is doing a PhD in Theoretical Computer Science. The reasons which explain this choice are the good quality of the University, the language (quite similar to Slovak) and the attractiveness of the city.

Nathan Ian Seidel

Nathan is from Cologne, Germany. He studies Biology in the University of Bonn. He has a great interest in Bioinformatics and Phylogenetics and he is currently doing research on these topics in the Alexander König Museum in Bonn. After finishing his undergraduate studies , he plans to continue with a Phd. program in the same research area.

Mordechai Butrashvily

Mordechai Butrashvily is very excited to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark, to participate in the Summer of HPC programme. He has never been to Denmark, so he expects a lot from “one of the most beautiful cities in the world”. Moti, as friends call him, is going to work on Accelerate routines within the CCSM4 project using GP-GPU. He is thrilled to have an opportunity to join his interests in climate modelling and GPU programming.

Peter Thompson

Peter is currently an undergraduate student of Physics at the University of Manchester. He is in the 4th year of Theoretical physics. In physics he is using computers to solve numerical problems and is very interested in computational sciences. That is why he will continue his studies in Computational physics. In his future works, he plans to use Computational techniques more heavily.

Elisavet Chatzilari

Elisavet is a Greek student from Thessaloniki. She is currently doing a PhD in computer vision at Information Technologies Institute (ITI) – CERTH – in collaboration with the University of Surrey, UK. Her research is about using machine learning to analyze data from social media. Before starting her PhD, she studied electronics and computer engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and afterwards she worked at the ITI institute for one year.

Caoimhín Laoide-Kemp

Caoimhín lives in a place close to Dublin in Ireland called Wicklow, with his siblings Sean and Carolin along with their dog Seoidin, their rabbit Oscar and their cat Scooter. In his free time, he likes to spend time on the computer, play soccer, table tennis and card games with friends. He is into rock music from the 60s and 70s, although he would rather live now than in the past because although the music was better technology has made life better!
