People make Edinburgh

Last weekend we went for a 1-day trip to Glasgow. All over the city there are flags, leaflets, and adverts with one interesting slogan: PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW.
I think that this phrase is absolutely true and also it is not valid only in Glasgow, but every city isn’t about buildings or events but about people who live here, built local buildings and streets, organised events in the city and also attending them. We didn’t have time to get to know the people of Glasgow, but after a month in Edinburgh we may say something about the people here.
People in Edinburgh are extremely nice and it is pleasure to speak with them. I wrote some examples of people’s kindness, however when I read it, it was a list of small things and it sounded ridiculous to me. But small things make the difference!
At least one example – It is a habit here to say hello to the bus driver and also thanks when you leave the bus.
People at the university are also fantastic! I have to mention Catherine and her loooong emails with lots of advice about where to go and what to do and see. If there would be a problem, she is the right person to ask! I would like to say thanks to Clair, because she lent me a bike.
As you would expect, in the city there are also a lot of tourists. The number of tourists is not surprising – it is the capital city of Scotland, which is full of sightseeing and festivals. It means that they are everywhere and the main festival hasn’t even started yet. Fringe starts on Friday and the amount of people in the city should triple by then.
I should not forget our flatmates. The first flatmate in our apartment was Masson. He left on the first Sunday morning, which means that the only memory we have is a midnight hello 😀
The same day Masson left, arrived Lucile, an Italian teacher who wanted to improve her English. She came to the Scotland without having an English lesson during the last 30 years! Despite her English being was pretty good and every time it was nice to see her. We spent an hour in the kitchen speaking about our day, meal, our countries etc. However she had to leave also and now the room is empty. We are looking forward to another flatmate 😉
