Barriga llena, corazón contento

As soon as I’ve got to the capital of Catalonia, the second largest city in Spain, I couldn’t move my eyes away from the beautiful sea and the shiny sun. I have spent my first days around the sights in Barcelona centre and on beautiful beach Barceloneta with colleague Vojtech Bardiovksy. I am looking forward to learn Catalan language and to be part of the Catalonia culture.

For the first week in Barcelona I’ve participated in the summer school Programming and tUning Massively Parallel Systems (PUMPS) 2013. I have gratefully enjoyed lectures by very good PUMPS 2013 Instructors and I’ve improved my programming skills in CUDA, OmpSs and OpenCL, which I’ll need for the SoHPC project Task Based Parallelization using a top-down approach. As part of the PUMPS program we have also visited magnificent supercomputer MareNostrum, which is part of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. MareNostrum has gigantic 20480 GB of Random-access memory (RAM), 63830 G Flops of speed and 280 TB of external disk storage.
